frequently asked questions

how much will my cutting/engraving cost?

quotes are based on the amount of time spent cutting/engraving, plus the amount of material you use. we run your file through the laser cutter’s software to calculate how long it will take to produce and then work out the area of material that your designs fill. quotes are always provided broken down to show the cost for each file sent, so if you’re using multiple colours/materials, you’ll always know how much each sheet is costing separately.

can you give me a rough quote from a description of what i’d like?

no - you’ll need to provide at the very minimum a very clear line drawing of what you need, along with detailed measurements and information about which material you’d like your designs cut from. as stated above, files/drawings need to be run through the laser cutter’s software in order to calculate a quote. the only exception to this is if you require very simple shapes such as circles/shapes/rectangles, in which case a drawing isn’t necessary.

is there a minimum order value?

no! you’re welcome to order as much or as little as you need, however postage is always charged at a flat rate - see the ‘delivery + collection’ page for information on delivery costs.

do i have to use a whole sheet of material?

no - the sizes on the ‘materials’ pages indicate the largest sheet size we stock, but you can use as little as you like. as mentioned above, quotes are based on the amount of material you actually use, to the nearest centimetre. imagine a box drawn around your designs, and that’s the amount of material you’ll be charged for!

how long will my order take to arrive?

current turnaround times are always listed at the top of the home page and in our instagram bio - this is how long it will take for your order to be dispatched from the date your invoice is paid, in working days (so not including weekends or bank holidays). UK orders will usually take a further 1-3 working days to arrive from this date, and international orders can take a further 3-7 working days to arrive.

can i send you my own material to be cut?

yes, you’re welcome to send us your own materials. you’ll then only be charged for cutting time, although a small additional fee may be added if the material requires any extra preparation e.g. masking before cutting. if it’s a type of material we don’t stock (e.g. paper, fabric, leather) we’ll also need to test a small area beforehand to get the laser’s settings just right too.

can you get hold of a material not listed on the website?

we can try our best! if we need to order in a material we don’t already stock we may require a minimum order amount, or you may find it more cost effective for you to order the material yourself as mentioned above.

can you cut fabric/leather/felt/cork/etc?

generally yes, as long as the material doesn’t contain any vinyl/PVC as this releases harmful chlorine gas when burned, and depending on the thickness of the material. again, we would need to test a small amount to check the laser’s settings first!

can you cut/engrave metal?

no. we can’t cut any metal at all, but we can engrave anodised/coated metal to remove the coating and reveal the metal underneath.

what’s the maximum size you can cut/engrave?

our largest laser cutter has a bed size of 900x600mm so this is the largest size we can cut. any engraved areas need to be slightly smaller than this.

what’s the maximum thickness you can cut?

we can cut acrylic up to 10mm thick and we can cut wood up to 6-8mm thick depending on the type of wood.

what’s the kerf of the laser beam?

the laser beam removes a small amount of material with each pass it makes, and this is called the kerf. our lasers have a kerf of approximately 0.125mm when cutting acrylic, meaning a circle which measures 10mm across when drawn in Illustrator will end up measuring approx 9.875mm when cut out. this can be helpful to keep in mind if you need pieces to fit together tightly!
